Given that there's a hosepipe ban and a fair bit of rainfall at the moment, I want to harvest and store of much water as I can while it lasts. Water butts from garden centres cost a bomb for anything with a decent capacity, and online stores aren't much better, pricewise. Seems that if you want to store over 1000 litres, the price goes through the roof (though Ebay have much cheaper, industrial-looking 1200L plastic tanks). Has anyone in Oxford or nearby solved this problem cheaply already? Does anyone know of any agricultural suppliers offering a better deal? Thanks :)

I was surprised by this question till I realised a water butt will set you back about 50 quid. The best deal I can find is this one (http://amzn.to/JfW4Tg) - calls itself a water tank rather than a rain butt but does the same job for £30. If you can scavenge a plastic dustbin for nothing, all you'll need is the drainpipe diverter, which is about a tenner, and you'll have an inelegant but perfectly effective solution!
