Does anyone know of anywhere in the centre of Oxford where fresh yeast for baking can be purchased? Palms used to have a limited amount, but now they've closed, I'm struggling to find some. Thanks!

A posting on a website said Tescos supplied it, but that was two years ago. I always used to use fresh yeast when you could buy it from bakers, but that's not so easy now. Dried yeast is just as good when you're used to using it.

Thanks, Icarus: I'll take a look at Tesco next time I'm out that way. I had been experimenting with dried yeast (Allinson's Easy Bake) before I posted my question, but hadn't been having terribly good results. Yesterday though, and inspired by your confidence in the stuff I had another go and, by making a liquid 'ferment' with it rather than just treating it as one of the dry ingredients (as the instructions suggest you should) I got an as-good-as-fresh result. Thanks again!

Thanks also to mariaelena, whose very useful reply seems to have vanished!

Palm's Deli in the Covered Market frequently has fresh yeast, and Taylor's deli sometimes does. Good luck!

I get my fresh yeast from the Baker at Sainsbury's. He just cuts off from his block what I need for the week.
