The cartoons below are all from hobby illustrator Mary Potter's book Potter Pourri: 36 sketches of Oxford Life, which is still available from Daily Information for £3.50 (contact us for copies). They originally appeared in The Oxford Calendar, 1975-87. The text is by Jessica and John Rose, with grateful acknowledgements to Richard Bailey and Margaret Ellis. Other Artists

Daily Information's Cartoon Competition is permanently open. If you can send us a cartoon that is Oxford-specific, wry and/or amusing, and which will work well in our print medium (bold lines, black and white, lots of contrast, clearly legible when printed at 7 or 14 cm width), we pay £20 per selected cartoon. Original copyright remains with you, the artist, though we reserve the right to reproduce your cartoon in our printed sheet whenever we like.

Alternatively, if you have an Oxford-related illustration or painting that is beautiful but won't come out in print, send it over and - if we love it - we'll gladly feature it here with a free link to your website.

Submissions must be on the theme of eating, sleeping, drinking, getting about or communications & language in Oxford. The general aim is to amuse in a simple, bold and relevant way, with no more than one line of text, and drawings approximately postcard (A6) size.

Copyright remains with the artist, and D.I. retains the right to republish free of charge.

Send hard copies (with SAE for return of originals) by post to Daily Information, First Floor, 121 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1HU or by email to info@dailyinfo.co.uk.
