The cartoons below are all from hobby illustrator Mary Potter's book Potter Pourri: 36 sketches of Oxford Life, which is still available from Daily Information for £6.99 (contact us for copies). They originally appeared in The Oxford Calendar, 1975-87. The text is by Jessica and John Rose, with grateful acknowledgements to Richard Bailey and Margaret Ellis. In 2002 Daily Information ran a cartoon competition that remains permanently open. New submissions are always welcome! The reward for a successful entry is £20, reproduction in the printed sheet, and display here.
Submissions must be on the theme of eating, sleeping, drinking, getting about or communications & language in Oxford. The general aim is to amuse in a simple, bold and relevant way, with no more than one line of text, and drawings approximately postcard (A6) size.
Copyright remains with the artist, and D.I. retains the right to republish free of charge.
Send hard copies (with SAE for return of originals) by post to Daily Information, 5 Standingford House, 26 Cave Street, Oxford OX4 1BA or by email to info@dailyinfo.co.uk.
