Well, what a triumph this was. I have been an avid fan of musical theatre for over 60 years, and have travelled countrywide to enjoy countless productions, both professional and amateur. Abingdon Operatic Society presented the best amateur production of this musical - actually, make that any musical - I have ever seen. There was so much to enjoy. All performers were excellent, from the principals to the (extremely professional) Von Trapp child actors and the chorus of nuns and Austrians. Special praise must go to the husband-and-wife powerhouse, John and Katie Nye (Musical Director and Director respectively), for their imagination and vision - they shaped this production to a West End standard.
