Oxfordshire Craft Guild shows are usually good, but this one is crammed full of gorgeous, high-quality craft and arts items, from beetle-shiny kiln glass jewellery to gorgeously tactile hand-turned wooden bowls and textile art (and clothing). If you're looking to avoid mass-made Christmas tat by getting gifts handmade by local artists, then look no further. The standard of stuff on display here is of a much higher quality than you'll find at most local Christmas markets and the prices didn't seem too outrageous either.
Stand-out highlights for us were the aforementioned dichroic (kiln) glass jewellery and bowls by Pam Armitage (Abingdon); incredibly delicate textile butterfly brooches by Vikki Lafford; wooden bowls incorporating contemporary marquetry by Richard Shock; gorgeous figurative textile pictures by Amanda Stone (a new Guild member) and a photomontage enamelled jewellery collection inspired entirely by a box of chocolates. There were also intricate, paper-thin ceramics from Kay White (Throw Down fans, eat your heart out) and an eyecatching, giant, illuminated pink glass ammonite. Plenty of plainer, elegant silver and gold jewellery too for the less flamboyant, plus cards, gifts for children, etc. Highly recommended.
Please note that the museum is not open on Mondays.
