Set in 1968, Made In Dagenham tells the story of the female sewing machinists at Ford Dagenham who went on strike for equal pay. They were joined by the female workers from Ford, Merseyside. Such was the impact of their action that they were invited to tea with Barbara Castle, well-played by Pam Hale, and introduced to Harold Wilson, great impersonation by Charlie East with pipe, stoop and high pitched giggle. An unlikely spokesperson for the girls, beautifully sung by Helena Kerswell, demands justice but nearly loses her family.
Gill Morgan directs this fast-moving story and Karen Brind has created some appropriate well-rehearsed choreography. Mike Davies displays a convincing American accent as the Yank who can pull the plug on the whole enterprise if he so wishes (and move it to Belgium as he threatens). Slick scene changes, organised by Bryan Proctor, contribute to make this a not to be missed entertainment.
