We used to be dedicated regulars at the Folly - and especially at Charlie's excellent quiz - when we lived nearby. Not having been for a quiz there for well over a year, we were delighted to come back last night to find our favorite quiz just as varied and fun as it has always been. At a pound per person, with cash prizes for each round, as well as for the overall winners, there's plenty of pickings too... We left empty handed this time, but enjoyed the evening no less for it!
The atmosphere at the family-run Folly was as welcoming as always and good old Sammy, the resident pub dog, still around to receive a good scratch. Thanks Roger, Maggie, Charlie and Jess - we look forward to our next visit! The Icelanders (Unverified), 25/11/11 Hello quizzers. This really is a brief review as I'm suprised on looking it's been over 2 years since the last review was left. It looks like they have found a winning formula because it's been busy the last few times we (me and my partner) have been there and always a great night. We now often get there for 6ish to grab a seat and more often than not have a bite to eat, as the food is very reasonably priced with a good choice. Anyway we spent £2 last Thursday, joined up with another couple and shared a winning round of £25. So listen to these reviews and go have a great night. PS - thank you to the lady behind bar for pointing out we nearly left an umbrella behind and the quiz bloke who was helpful and ever the joker. All the best... julie and john (Unverified), 17/11/09 Superb nite for all. Just to agree really with everything I have read in this column. I am a student with little money (no shock there then) and make it a point to go every week with my friends. It (the quiz) for just the £1 to play is great fun and value for money. We have won a few times and the prize money is very generous. Also there is that elusive jackpot to be won. Get youself down there and if you don't have the fun I guarantee you will, ask for me (Ben) and I will get you a drink. Brookes uni boys (Unverified), 10/10/07 Follybridge Inn, Pub Quiz, Thursday nights BRILLIANT.This long overdue review is quite simply to make all aware that there's no other place to be on a Thursday night. I've often wondered and never personally bothered about quiz nights until coming across to the Folly. The quiz is very easy going as well as all connected to the pub. For £1 it's great value for money with 3 rounds each offering cash prizes. (Win all three rounds and you win the kitty which is now in excess of £200 - I'm still trying.) There's a recent addition of the russian roulette-style winners' round which enables you to gamble for extra winnings. So in my opinion a must for a thursday night as well as a great selection of drinks, and clientele. Thanks to all the staff and of course the infamous quiz master Mr Charlie Guinan for making my weekends start early! cidrman (Unverified), 02/02/07 Highly recommended. We 3 Americans stumbled in and were immediately welcomed in and invited to have a go at the quiz. They found us seats and made us feel right at home. Big fun and great pints. We really enjoyed it, and while we didn't win, I think we made the Quiz Master chuckle a few times. Greg from the USA (Unverified), 16/12/06 Folly Bridge - One of the best pounds me and my partner have invested. We managed to win the highest overall score prize and a round. £33 profit! Just want to win the current £125 jackpot now. Great atmosphere, with great mix of questions from the "Jolly Quiz Master" big Charlie. T (Unverified), 14/09/06 Lovely. A long overdue addition to the list - the Folly has one of the city's most well-rounded quizzes, with a nice mix of questions and a good humoured and gently boisterous clientele. It also, without a doubt, offers the most generous prizes: £10 for each round, £25 for the highest overall score and a rollover jackpot for winning all three rounds. Difficult, but taaantalisingly possible. Any complaints? Just that the music round, for me, ends up as a painful guessing game. Playing with a music geek who makes up for my deficiencies doesn't help - it'll only make him conceited. Go there - but please drink enough for the management to think it's worth continuing to offer such nice prizes. Susie Cogan (Unverified), 23/08/06 |
