On Saturday 10th March, The Blue and White Rope Skippers came to Oxford School of Martial Arts for a demonstration and workshop. The non profit making event (which was a sell out), was held at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre in Abingdon. At the beginning of the 2 hour skipping workshop the team performed a demonstration of their skipping skills, including single skipping, double skipping, group skipping and double dutch.

The team consists of Former World Champions, some European Champions and all of the team are current British Champions. They gave a vibrant and exciting skipping demonstration before the workshop began. The participants were split into three different age groups, ranging from 6 years to adult. The team then coached the groups in an exciting, demanding and fun training session. Everybody tried new skills and tricks, initially in single rope skipping and then moving into double dutch. A lot of those attending the workshop were students at Oxford School of Martial Arts, building on their skipping skills but there were also those that were trying skipping for the first time and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

The students from the Oxford School of Martial Arts excelled themselves. Sue (the BWRS coach) commented that it was phenomenal for her staff to teach children who were obedient and focused, and she was impressed by how much could be achieved by children who are disciplined. The rate of learning was excellent, even for the 6 year olds. It’s what the school aims to do as standard, but sometimes it is forgotten that it's unusual.

The session ended with another demonstration, this time of their competition routines and finished with a demonstration of double dutch speed skipping. The team then signed autographs. It proved to be a very successful afternoon, exciting and exhilarating for both spectators and participants alike.
