Oh dear. I'm afraid to say that was £10 I'll never see again. I watched the majority of this production through my fingers as I was simply too embarrassed to show my face to let anyone see I was there.
The lowest part for me was the completely inappropriate and unnecessary 'lap dance' to the music of Amy Winehouse in the middle of act one. "Diabolical" was the opinion of my friend with me.
This was a desperate attempt to make Shakespeare contemporary and I'm sure Wills wil be turning in his casket.
I have to say some Shakespeare plays lend themselves to the modern era much more than others. If there was any proof needed that this isn't one of them this production serves that purpose perfectly.
The cast were badly mis-guided, the direction was poor (to be kind), and the audience were less moved and more confused.
In all a disappointment, I do hope the young production team and cast will learn from their mistakes and will make the improvments needed to create what could potentially be a very 'interesting' production.
