Yes, these are very strange indeed. They are crustacean-bird-like fantasies which have taken up nesting in the exhibition cases on the top floor of the Museum of History of Science, among the measuring instruments and the astrolabes. Is the rest of the display a fantasy too, you may ask? Well, at one time these little brass instruments were the only guides to the cosmos you were likely to get. If you still want to dream in fantasies, there is also a small display of historical anaesthetic equipment on the floor below - getting high on ether and chloroform was until relatively recently the only way of having painless surgery. You could envision anything while slowly waking up.
