This movie was universally panned in the press, but actually I quite enjoyed it. Naturally one is not looking for either depth or realism in a rom-com; it is frothy and frilly, and if that's what you want, it delivers quite a few good laughs and a nice, if implausible, feel-good ending. The quite unbelieveably gorgeous Ashton Kutcher was in fact rather good, falling convincingly in love and pulling off the difficult feat of appearing to be in some doubt as to whether Cameron would accept him (and his large cheque).

The audience had to put up with the usual trick of all of the good bits from the first half of the movie having appeared in the trailer, but there was still enough left in the remainder to justify the ticket price, although it was somewhat brief by today's standards at 1 hr 39 minutes. The chemistry between the stars was strong, especially in those scenes where they were trying hard not to kiss; and I suppose, given that Kutcher is presently married to someone fifteen years older than him, that there is nothing implausible in him dating an older woman; it's just that he doesn't look his age (he's now 30) whereas Cameron (sneaking up on 36) um, does. Anyway, it's a good bit of fun for a rainy day.
