Do not go and see Couscous. It is the most irritating film I have ever seen. The acting was fantastic, but the scenes went on far too long. Cut the film in half and it might be worth a viewing.
This is a fantastic movie.
The dialogues and acting are amazingly natural and feel very real.
The actors are so good that it makes you wonder if they are real actors or just ordinary people. Some of the camera shots are so close and well chosen that you can read the characters’ emotions. At times, if feels as if a hidden camera has been placed inside the settings and makes you feel as if you are part of the scene.
I specially remember the scene were the whole family are sitting around the table eating couscous. I almost felt as if I was there and I could speak to them!
But it is above all a tragic story and made me cry at times.
It also shows the female figure as being the strongest and driving force in this type of society.
Only one bad point about it. It was far too long, (151 min) it dragged out and at times, I felt I wanted to get out the cinema. Some scenes could have been cut. So, if you go, use the toilet first and bring some water with you. Be prepared for a long film. It is still worth it.
All and all, a wonderful film. I recommended 100%
