"The Wildlife Photographer of the Year" is one of my favourite exhibitions each year but sadly the University Museum "lost" it a couple of years back (I enquired about it and was told by the Museum that Shell made it financially prohibitive for them) and I have had to go to London to see it outside the Natural History Museum ever since. It was therefore with delighted trepidation that I welcomed its return to our fair city, at Science Oxford. The photographs were as usual stunning (some of them more so than others; a very cute subject does not always, in my opinion, a great photo make) but I was very disappointed with the display, which left a lot to be desired. The lighting was really pretty awful and I spent a lot of time trying not to see myself reflected in the pictures and trying to make out all the details. The size of each photo also seemed to have shrunk by a third and all in all, despite an obvious wealth of photographic talent on show, I felt the way it was displayed did very little credit to some quite excellent pictures. Nonetheless there is much beauty on display and a great deal of skill in the photos chosen. Pamplemousse (Unverified), 18/11/08 Travelled from Banbury to see this exhibition, it was well worth it. The photographs are superb. You find yourself choosing your favorite, only to change your mind on every next picture. Will def go again before the exhibition ends. Sara (Unverified), 15/11/08 |
