if you have read the book and wondered how it can be adapted for the big screen then go and see this film. It clearly captures the sheer loss felt by each member of the family, whilst at the same time showing how easily abductions can take place. The film is less harrowing than the book but captures your imagination nevertheless.

Very disappointing. I had read the book and loved it but the film was too long and the characters weak and unbelievable. The Susan Sarandon character (grandmother of the missing girl) was pointless and there was another character I didn't remember at all from the book. She was a teenager with some mystical abilities, but her role was never really explained. All in all very disappointing. Don't bother going.

It was awful. It was just awful. Zero character development, astonishing casting decisions (Marky Mark as a man struggling with the complex effects of incurable grief), Rachel Weisz (so affected I thought she might have been told the film was a parody), and Susan Sarandon as some kind of Auntie Mame figure, complete with secret bottles of gin and an hysterical laugh which would have felt out of place in a comedy. (This film about child murder couldn't quite stretch to laughs, surprisingly.) Just... what??
