The Secret in their Eyes [18]

A retired legal counselor hopes to find closure for an unresolved homicide cases and for unreciprocated love. A murder mystery with a twist.

Desperately overrated film. Reminded me of an episode of Wallander or Taggart or something... Would have thought better of it if it had been on TV; on the big screen it's bad - a mild thriller with ambitions to significances and a weird drunken friend from another plotline. No one would think highly of it if it had been in English.

Beautiful and intelligent movie. The actors are superb and sensitive. A love story intertwines with a rape/murder case in a time of political turmoil in Argentina. Highly recommended and no need to fear getting lost in translation: the eyes say it all.

Wonderful movie! It has everything you can expect: beautifully played, very interesting plot, intrigue till the end! Loved it! Perhaps some of the people who did not like the movie did not speak Spanish and lost the essence of the movie. If not, I cannot understand the bad reviews. Highly recommended to anyone who loves good movies!

The unlikelihood of the plot - especially the ending - is very much balanced by the appealing playing of the main characters. Beautifully acted, worthwhile seeing.

I've read nothing but praise for this movie - perhaps I saw a different movie? Dull, clunky ridiculous plot, it has more false endings than Lost. It pulls in Argentina's ruthless political background halfway through to liven things up, but even that feels contrived.

[WARNING- SPOILERS MAY FOLLOW- Ed.]

The ending is a shocker. The baddy gets his just desserts and our goodies live happily ever after, and we (there were 4 of us) get our numb back sides back (2hrs10mins) and an opportunity to laugh outside the cinema at those Oscar judges who may have had a visit from an Argentinian junta! If the film had been made in english I doubt it would have been released. Shocking tosh!
