The basic premise of this story held such high hopes, the idea of people swooping in and being able to make you do the most remedial things to change the course of your whole life could have been a thrilling ride....sadly this film didn’t get there.
It centres on David Norris who’s in the race for the Senate in NY and on the night of losing the election he’s destined to meet a woman who will inspire him to make a speech that will change everything for him. The “plan” is for him to go on with his life never seeing the woman again and being an influential figure in politics. There’s a mishap though, and he meets the woman again and the Hat brigade swoops in to try to convince him that he shouldn’t be with this woman, and so the fight against the system begins.
I think one problem for the film is the time skipping, we have the set-up, it jumps to 3 years later, then skips on another 18 months. In doing that the film obviously spanned more years and tried to give a sense of long term to the situation but in doing so they lost some of the depth of what the two characters were searching for and what they meant to each other showing only really brief shots of what their lives are like without each other.
The film itself wasn’t bad, but it certainly didn’t live up to the Bourne meets Inception tags the trailers gave it. The thriller aspect had most certainly been lost along the way somewhere. I think if you plan on seeing this film based on the trailers for it, you’re going to be extremely disappointed!
