I had a lovely evening watching the children perform in this show, and was amazed by the standard displayed, given these young performers had only ten days to work with a full scale musical. I was disappointed some verses of the songs were taken out, maybe due to the fact that this was junior version. An array of colour lit the stage, and a chorus of keen and happy children made the opening scene an invitation to keep watching. There was lively dancing, and lots of comic scenes throughout very well rehearsed.
The odd slip up from a few of the younger members of this huge cast just made me smile. The atmosphere of 1940s was captured very well, in costumes and the set, especially when the gamblers were playing their craps game in the seller was brilliant.
Some of the older children were exceptional, vocally, Sky Masterson (Edd Bird) and his partner Sarah Brown (Georgina Hendry) had stunning voices, and I was moved by them. Very enjoyable also was Ryan BIggs as Nicely Nicely, and Eve Norris gave a good performance as the ditzy Miss Adalaide, I've just named a few, but there were no weak links in the principal cast. My only regret was sometimes the sound was a bit muffled by the loud but very good band, but what a lovely feel-good show that was directed with flair by Ed Blagrave.
