Apollo 18 comes late to the ‘found footage’ bandwagon, essentially the result of someone pitching ‘Alien meets Cloverfield’ to the Weinsteins. The film looks grainy and glitchy enough for video shot in the 1960's – it’s relentlessly ugly to look at – but credibility is instantly shot by the casting of a familiar British actor as the captain. It wouldn’t matter if the characters were interesting, or if something happened to them which we haven’t seen a hundred times before, but this is all tiringly familiar. At least in space nobody can hear you yawn.
