Great entertainment and really strong performances from the three leads here. Joel Edgerton, who plays the physics teacher whose circumstances force him into fighting for money, and Tom Hardy, as his tormented, bullish younger brother are both convincing in their characters and in the MMA fights, and Nick Nolte is by turns sympathetic and repellent as their recovering alcoholic father.
It is a fight film, so expect a classic and pretty predictable plot, but there is depth to it and some very moving scenes, which sit alongside some probably unintentionally funny moments (I cringed at the first glimpse of a physics lesson - you'll see why).
The plot has great momentum, although relies on some fairly implausible leaps to bring it together, such as how the two leads manage to get into the big event, but if you relax your thinking a little, it is very rewarding and punctuated by satisfyingly brutal fights. The final act was powerful and satisfying, but needed an epilogue - it cuts off too soon possibly because of concerns it was becoming too long.
I would definitely recommend Warrior as a drama- and action-filled Saturday night entertainment, and especially so for fans of martial arts or just of Tom Hardy's impossibly muscled torso.
