This is a powerful piece of theatre which explores difficult material with integrity and humanity. Playing out somewhat like a fever dream it uses physicality, text, live music, extraordinary polyphonic singing and circus skills to explore some key experiences of the human condition.
The circus skills are some of the best integrated I have ever seen - seeiming to be based in the emotions of the play rather than a neat trick grafted on. The company play very well as an ensemble and impressed me with their skill, versatility and commitment.
We need artists like this - exploring the challenges of life with honesty, passion and great theatrical skill. At the end of the piece the person next to me said in a stunned voice "that was fantastic". You could feel the sentiment rippling through the audience. It left me with a feeling for the preciousness of life and the importance of openness and connection in the face of challenge.
If you care for theatre that has humanity, poetry and fearlessness then I suggest you try and catch this show. It may be the most remarkable piece of theatre you see this year.
Thanks are to North Wall for bringing work of this calibre to Oxford.
