Puss In Boots [U]

The heroic feline meets femme fatale Kitty Softpaws.

Very disappointing.

Having tried and failed to find a suitable time to see Puss in Boots 2D , I was forced into seeing in 3D which I must admit will have skewed my views on the film a tad as I loathe this (IMO) grossly over-rated medium.

Nevertheless I have to say to finding this latest animated offering well below par and a real let down.

"Puss" is such a wonderful character and I had great hopes but none of the hilarious witty moments of the first two Shrek films were anywhere in sight and the entire film was left gasping for the want of a plot and suffering because of a very lacklustre and rather thin watery script.

All in all not at all what I had come to expect from those studios and a real missed opportunity.

I found it quite dull and though I am sure there were ravishing treasures of animation I certainly cannot comment on the aesthetics as the 3D medium to me made it all look like bad video games/special effects rather than adding anything of substance.

MEH.

Not the finest offering from the Shrek lads, it's true, but this film has some good moments. As ever, it's at its best when the cats are most catlike, or when they're borrowing from other films, like the dance sequence at the beginning of Mission Impossible 2.

The plot and the characters' switiching loyalties and affections seem to go round in circles a bit, and there's an annoying split-screen effect which didn't do much for me, but the bouncy clouds are nice, and between that and the cats' nightclub there was enough to keep an (adult) audience satisfied and a new year hangover at bay.

Oh dear. Best avoided - even moppets find it disappointingly thin.
