Youth theatre can often conjure up images of very awkward theatrical experiences, however, having seen several Sands Theatre Arts School plays, I can also attest to its wonder.
The well-loved children's tale Peter Pan was this year's offering from the group, and they did not let their impressive track record slip.
Despite a slightly stuffy venue, one could not help but be charmed by the sheer enthusiasm of the young people onstage. Everyone, from the smallest lost boy to the tallest pirate, seemed to relish their time in the spotlight. It was also lovely to see a live band accompany youth theatre instead of the dreaded backing track!
Star turns came from Anna Bennett as Peter and Lucy Paige as Wendy - the duo had a lovely chemistry. Chris Wilson as Hook also lead his motley crew of pirates impressively. Other notable performances came from Michael, John, Smee, Mr Darling, the Indian Chief and Tigerlily.
All in all, another charming production from the under celebrated Sands Theatre Arts School.
