This might be the best superhero movie of the season, even allowing for the excellent Avengers and Dark Knight contenders. It's refreshingly honest and straightforward, takes itself properly seriously, and delivers a straight 'good vs. evil' morality play without silliness or sermons. It's well written, brilliantly acted and stunningly produced, and completely riveting from start to finish. The actors are all new to me, but Dredd is just right - keeps his helmet on at all times, great dialogue, and of course there's no Bruce Wayne type alter ego to fill out the character - so it's a real challenge for the actor. Kudos also to the lady playing the arch villain, for being a beautiful woman who comes across as more real, evil and sinister than the testosterone-fuelled deformed monsters we usually get in films like this. The music is fab, too. In summary, top marks all round. If you like this sort of movie do go and see it. Dreaming Spires (Unverified), 11/09/12 |
