This is not a supernatural, Amityville-type horror movie, but a suspenseful, there-are-no-monsters-worse-than-human-beings type horror movie, and as such it is not at all bad. Anyone who has watched too many episodes of Criminal Minds will easily guess what is really going on pretty early in the movie, but the plot reversal is quite nicely handled, and the actors are first rate - a very engaging and plausible relationship between Elizabeth Shue as the mother and Jennifer Lawrence as the teenage daughter, and relative newcomer Max Thieriot excellent as the gentle outcast she befriends. Well worth a look. Andrea Hopkins (DI Reviewer), 25/09/12 |
