Have you seen, eaten, heard, experienced or stayed in something you like in Oxford? Submit your own review of it here! Chances are that we are listing it already, so if you know the name of the thing you want to review, please search for it using the Categorised Search Box at the top right of this page. Alternatively, browse our Cinema, Restaurant, Theatre and other indexes to find it. If you can't find it that way, just submit your review on this page via the boxes on the right.
GuidelinesWhat Constitutes a Daily Information review?About 300 interesting, intelligent and entertaining words answering the questions: Basically, a Daily Info review has to serve as a guide for anybody who might be considering seeing a play, buying a book, going to an exhibition, having a haircut or whatever. You should therefore try to describe the actual event as much as possible - just saying 'I liked it' without explaining why is of little use to anyone. For a restaurant review you would need to include notes on ambience, the food you had and any other interesting menu options, the service and the price (as accurate as possible, please - it might be worth asking to take a menu away with you). Occasionally we may not publish a review at all (if it is very badly written, or seems to us to be biased in some way). See our Terms and Conditions for more information. It helps if you avoid words that people are not likely to understand (eg post-colonial, eponymous); and remember that it's very easy to get sadistic about a production if you are dissatisfied with a few of its points. By all means express your dislike, but don't get drunk with power. You are not A A Gill (or at least we hope you're not). Keep it simple, bold and cheerful. We reserve the right to edit at our discretion. What can be reviewed? Anything. Films, plays, books, restaurants, gardens, hotels, exhibitions, local/student issues, gigs, music releases.... You name it, we'll almost certainly be interested in it. What do I get out of it? The joy of seeing your work published and the virtuous glow of having contributed to the welfare of everyone trying to have a good time in Oxford. If you like, you can also email us with a sample of your work and ask to be added to our Official Reviewers List. If you're on that, you can get free tickets for events. How does the Official Reviewers List work? You submit your email address and an example of your work (ideally a 300-400 word review of a local event or film) to us at dailyinfo@dailyinfo.co.uk. It's helpful, though not essential, for us to have a phone number as well, as we are often asked to arrange reviews for events at short notice and it may be useful for us to get in touch with you quickly. If we like your work, we put you on our list of regular reviewers. Each week, we send out circular emails letting you know what's up for reviewing. You respond with your choice; we email you back letting you know whether or not you can do it. If you can, two tickets will await you on the door at the first night of the show you've selected. Reviewers often volunteer for particular items, and we'll try to allot things accordingly, but we also try to see that no one hogs all of anything. You go to the event and let us have the review (by email, to dailyinfo@dailyinfo.co.uk) by 10am the following morning. IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL THAT YOU KEEP TO THIS DEADLINE. Even if your review is not going in the printed sheet, the sooner we get your review up on the web and into the public domain, the sooner people can start to read it! Most shows have first nights on Tuesdays, and as we print the sheet a day in advance, if we get your review by Wednesday 10am the earliest sheet it could go in would be Thursday's. Most shows end on Saturday. A review arriving later than the 10am Wednesday deadline (in this example) would miss almost all the publicity in the printed sheet for which the organisers have given us the free tickets. Can I have something reviewed? By all means. Email us well in advance at dailyinfo@dailyinfo.co.uk with all the details of your show (venue, date, time, company, short synopsis, ticket price, who to contact to ask for reviewers' tickets if your show is not at one of the main Oxford theatres), and we'll send it out to the reviewers' list when the time comes. We'll also put it up in the appropriate free listings section online (or you can - just go to the bottom of the relevant page on the website and enter your event's details) and, if there's space, in the printed sheet. |
Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review. |
