It was convenient for our destination. We had previously stayed nearby and wanted to see if The Dial House was better. The room we had been allocated was very clean. We booked a king size room, while there was a king sized bed, it was put into a standard room so there was little room to move about. The extra room around the bed was exactly why we had booked, and paid extra for, a king sized room. The shower was good but the rest of the bathroom very small, toilet seat loose and very tiny sink.

On going out we could not get the door to lock. A member of staff who had come to tell us our taxi had arrived showed us how it was done – simply slam the door very hard and it locked! I said this was not good for other guests especially late at night, I got a smile. Some common areas were a bit shabby; the room where the bill was paid was full of laundry and old furniture, not a good impression.

I am surprised others complimented the breakfast. The toast was only slightly brown and food not very hot. The staff found it difficult to understand that the food should be piping hot. Overall a depressing experience – a king sized bed does not make a king sized room.

The Dial House has just had a major make over and every room has been decorated, all en-suites have been replaced. There is wireless internet and computer in lounge for the use of guest which is free of charge. The improvements are such that they are now 4****. Take a look to see for yourself.

After reading the comments already made by others, we strongly disagree with them. We wish to let everyone know how pleased we have been with the service and care we have received at the Dial House. Also the rooms are very clean and tidy, bed linen are fresh.
We have enjoyed our breakfast each morning, the staff have been very attentive to our meals and requests. The manageress has knowledge of the Oxford area and places to go and see. Our travel plans improved because of her suggestions.
Returning guests are a good sign of the quality of service they received at the first time. We shall definitely return to the Dial House when we visit Oxford again.

I have to agree with the comments already made by others. I too stayed in the dreaded Room 1 (to my horror after reading the review!) The place is sub standard. There is no internet access in all the rooms as advertised. Not recommended at all...1/100

Horrible!!! I would not recommend this place at all. The people who run the place are not very friendly. They actually argued with us for no reason. The place was very dirty. It is substandard.

Two years ago we visited UK and stayed in a total of 11 B&B's on our travels. All of which were good except for the Dial House which was awful. The room was very basic and uncomfortable. The bathroom was filthy, grungy and slimy. The location is noisy being on a busy road. The manageress at the time was grumpy, unhelpful and unfriendly - then demanded a gratuity on our departure!! Definitely not recommended. Are coming back to Oxford in October - hopefully will find a better B&B this time...

I feel very strongly that the accommodation (Room 1) I was provided with, for £70 a night, was not of the quality I expected for the following reasons;
• The paint was peeling off the wall in a large patch beneath the tv, by the curtain.
• There was mould/damp over the wall by the shower in the en-suite.
• The door to the en-suite did not close properly.
• The shower was dirty, particularly the grouting between the tiles, which was covered in thick black grime.
• There was a patch of tiles in the shower which were broken (it looked like an old shower has once been there and this had not been covered up properly).
• The headboard had buttons on it, which had dirt caught around the edges.
• The dιcor was extremely dated, with a white leatherette headboard and other 70's looking furniture.
• The bed creaked badly, disturbing my sleep.
