I ate at the Tree last week and was very disappointed. I have eaten here many times before but since moving from Iffley I hadn't been so often. I ordered by favourite murgh malai kebab in the bar to find that despite being on the expensive end of the bar menu they had cut down on the chips and salad and no longer serve with a naan. The previously delicious yoghurt marinated cooked in the tandoori chicken breast is now flabby, lacking in flavour other than chilli and still the same price! I was planning to hold my wedding rehersal dinner here but defiantly won't bother now paying the restaurant prices when the bar food was so terrible.
Gutted (Unverified), 21/06/11 Very good quality food and you can choose from Thai, Indian or English food. I have tried all 3 and the quality is good. They also do a pretty mean buffet lunch on a Sunday which is also a mix of different cuisine. So if you like curry with your yorkshire puds this is the way to go. Reasonably priced. They sell real ale which can fluctuate. When the beer is looked after it is good. However I have had cause to send more than one pint back due to it not being kept well. When will pubs learn that real ale served well needs care and cleanliness. I recommend you ask to taste it before ordering a pint. They are obliging with that. Some entertainment also available see their website. apbg60 (DI User), 26/03/11 We ate at the restaurant last night. The food was fabulous,1st class, the service brilliant, you really need to advertise more as you deserve a full restaurant every night. Thank you for a really lovely evening. 13/06/09 I love the Tree - as a pub and a restaurant I think it's fantastic. The food's kind of pricey, especially some of the Indian and Thai dishes, but - oh my god - it is literally the best Indian food I have ever eaten, so please don't let that put you off! The price really is value for money... I've been there just for a few drinks, to eat in the bar, and also a couple of times to eat in the restaurant for a special occasion. Every time I've found the food great (apart from just the one time when my dish was very over salted), the service freindly and helpful; I think the manager makes it his duty to recognise people that come in more than once, and encourages his staff to do the same, and he always says hello to us, even if we're just walking past! Thank god we live so close then! Ruth (Unverified), 12/09/07 The Tree is my local pub, a bit on the expensive side but my friends and I are more than happy to pay that little bit extra as the staff, beer, food, service and atmosphere are all brilliant. The pub quiz on Tuesdays is always a very good laugh with questions to challenge all (except the Bearflies team maybe). All round a very good little pub. Unknown (DI User), 06/07/07 We held our Son's Wedding Breakfast at The Tree and the whole event was a success from initial planning to the day. Weddings being stressful I can honestly say that I felt relaxed and was able to enjoy our special time. We just arranged for the balloons, cake and flowers to be delivered and the it all appeared by magic, and being a very fussy Mum I was concerned that the 'look' would not be quite right, but my concerns were totally unfounded, as I passed the hotel on my way to the church I looked up saw the room, what a sight! I was able to enjoy the Wedding Service knowing that all was well. On arrival the staff were attentive but not intrusive and helpful in the extreme. The food was everything we could ask for and more, the non-meat eaters were astounded at the choice on offer, no nut roast or soggy aubergines in site!!! So many of our guests have since returned to sample the Sunday Roast and Bar food!! We had 52 guests and all agreed that the occasion was a delight. If you are looking for a venue with that extra something look no further than the Tree. Fussy Mum (Unverified), 22/05/07 I've just read the review from 'Very Disappointed, Birmingham' and can't believe he/she is writing about the Annora/Tree pub. I have dined on more than one occasion and come away very satisfied. The staff are young, but their service and smiles are always on top form. The varied menu should be tried, I have never tasted a better Indian meal in my life and the Sunday carvery looks so appetising, my son says it's fantastic. Keep up the good work, you certainly haven't seen the last of me. By the way, thank you for the lovely carnation presented on Mother's Day today. Tracy Williams (Unverified), 18/03/07 The Tree and Annora restaurant are absolutely fantastic. The food is amazing and I would recommend anyone to go there and try their varied menu. Compliments to the chef for the wonderful food and thanks to the staff for making us so comfortable and welcome. Vanessa , Iffley Road (Unverified), 13/10/06 Amazing food, both Thai and Indian. I must say, the best Indian food I've had in Oxford. The Sunday buffet has a huge vareity of dishes and is cheap and affordable. They have all arrangements for children as well. Staff are very warm and friendly and provide excellent service. Lianne Lewis (Unverified), 12/09/06 We came just for lunch for Mother's Day. Nice food barely compensated for a less than basic and bare dining hall, dirty carpets and very young waiting staff; also lots of families smoking over their young children in the bar and a bit too close to the buffet food. I was embarrassed to bring my family there and wouldn't recommend it to anyone that I actually liked. Fair play to the staff who were attentive but struggled to crack a smile, as they were very young and didn't seem to be supervised by anyone older. Compliments to the chef but that's it. Very Disappointed, Birmingham (Unverified), 04/05/06 I enjoyed the stay at the Tree Hotel. Their hospitality and service was fantastic. I was hungry and could order menu from the bar with my drinks. I was also offered to dine at the annora international restaurant, which caters for Indian, Thai and English cuisine. Unfortunately it was too much for me, so preferred the bar menu instead. I would highly recommend the tree hotel for its service and quality. Not that far from the city centre as well. I had an appointment in the centre and reached there in under 10 mins.
