Had a fantastic meal here. The food is on the better side of fine dining, seasonal and fresh. Great service with even better views. I highly recommend this restaurant. You wont be disappointed!

Very disappointing. The steak which was claimed to have been hung for 28 days, was tough to chew. I had to send it back and there was no time for a replacement. The salmon was underwhelming at best. Prices were on the high side and simply did not seem justifiable for the quality. No fixed price menu.

Good location. The staff were friendly and tried hard enough, but seemed inexperienced and there was no evidence of anyone managing the team. If it's going to give itself the airs and graces of a quality restaurant they really must improve, and probably lower their prices too.

We visited No 1 Folly Bridge between the Abingdon Road being flooded and cleared and then flooded again. Perhaps then it is some kind of karma that my first ever visit here left me more drowning in tears than sailing with joy.

Where to start? We'd booked a table for the evening, though arrived to find only two tables in the fairly large restaurant actually in use. Once seated we ordered a glass of wine and commented that the venue had interesting décor, lots of white features, hanging bird cages and lanterns and so on. Initially rather nice but as the evening went on the prettiness felt a little tiresome.

The menu looked good, if a little pricey. However if the food is great, who cares about money, right? This is where the problems began.

The starter of scallops with smoked haddock mash and sauce vierge was totally ridiculous. Three over-cooked scallops sat on a tiny (really tiny) bed of what is best described at ‘scissored' fish. Tiny lumps of tasteless gunk, more a hash than a mash in every sense. Truly awful, and at £8.95, pretty unbelievable ‘value' also.

Fishcakes with homemade sweet chilli sauce came in at about £7. A pair of fairly tasty cakes though certainly no better than the frozen kind found in supermarkets.

I'd hoped the main courses might be better so when my pan fried duck breast, duck fat turned potatoes, creamed spinach and fried shallot rings arrived I was less than impressed (£17). A duck breast around the size of a postage stamp booklet was well cooked but small. The creamed spinach was approximately three watery spinach leaves in a heap under the duck while the shallot was crispy but nice – again very little of it.

Despite being disappointed with my dish my companion did even worse. Her beer battered hake, hand cut chips, tartare sauce and crushed minted peas (£12) was a disaster dish. A tasteless lump of fish the size of an iPhone, a ‘scissored' (yes that phrase again!) cake of peas and – wait for it – nine chips, yes nine whole chips. I love chips and I'm not ashamed to say it but all this pomp and circumstance that has come to surround the simple chip gets on my nerves. Stacking them like gold bars? I want enough chips please. Hand cut? Then get a plaster. Triple cooked? I don't care. When the end result merely tastes of dirty oil, no amount of polishing the potatoes will solve anything.

I will give special mention to the staff, there were a lot of them and they stood around aimlessly gazing at the few diners they had yet making no real effort to provide service. We were not asked if we wanted another drink. We had no cruets but they did bring us some though these were a hodge podge of a set and every table seemed to have mismatched and cheap cruets.

I should also mention the gents' toilets. Rather small and tatty, they also seemed to be a bizarre store cupboard playing host to a large glass fronted free-standing cabinet in front of the sink (empty in case you wondered); a heap of Farrow & Ball paint pots and other DIY bits, plus a series of those horribly tacky automatic plastic air fresheners. Depending on the angle one stands at the urinal one can enjoy Warhol's Marilyn; a vintage French day out sketch or most unsettling a black and white image of Sean Connery pouring a drink – perhaps something subliminal intended there. Simply odd.

So sadly No 1 Folly Bridge is less The Boat That Rocked and more the Titanic.

I've now visited No. 1 Folly Bridge quite a few times - twice for high tea, once for a late lunch with my partner, and the last couple of times for a huge lunch for almost 30 people, and my 30th birthday party for which we decided would have a 1930s Speakeasy Prohibition Theme! We rented the whole Brasserie for the night, and it was AMAZING! So much effort went into all of the details, quite a few of them volunteered by the Folly Bridge team themselves. It made the overall success of this particular party (and my previous visits) very much down to an excellent choice in venue, staff, food and drink! You'll be seeing plenty of me in the future, that's for sure!

Went to this restaurant tonight. It was very empty with about 3 tables occupied (probably due to the very rainy weather). Chose the sea bream with char grilled vegetables for a main. The fish was lovely and cooked perfectly but the veg were watery and soggy and the whole dish was more like a starter. Still very hungry so we asked about dessert. One pudding ordered was apple crumble - it consisted ot a pile of apple and a few crumbs sprinkled on top! The other puddings were ok but nothing special. Overall the location was beautiful despite the weather but the food was not what it should have been for that price. I will not be recommending this place, very disappointing.

I've popped into No1 Folly Bridge a couple of times now. First I went in the summer and had a glass of wine on the floating deck (lovely). Then I went again for lunch and the food was great, and most recently I popped in for tea with a friend. I really love No1, the staff are friendly and the food is really good. I particularly like the window seats where you can watch the river, and the staff are good natured and don't rush you out as soon as your coffee is finished. I recommend this for good atmosphere and location, and in the summer time is is just superb, do try it.

My wife and I had dinner here on Friday 9th March. We enjoyed our meals, which were of excellent quality, and the service was first class.

They were well presented and the timing of delivery of the various courses was spot on.

We will certainly eat here again and would recommend it to others.
