Do not be put off by the sign (on a rather unbecoming shade of red which makes it look cheap) of the new Turkish Mediterranean restaurant "Oxford Grill" at 21 Cowley Road. The interior décor is very pleasant. The food is excellent and the portions very generous. There is a good web page, you can mute the music if you do not like it. I have been twice with different friends and they have been pleasantly surprised as how good it is. We plan to return and let other people know! Blanca (Unverified), 16/04/12 l can't believe this very cheap and very quality food amazing place to go. Highly recommend. mark (Unverified), 04/03/12 Really delicious fresh food, but extremely slow service. At the beginning of the evening, we were approached twice by a waiter before we had had a chance to read the menu (and being hungry, we were concentrating on the menus and not on conversation!). However, it was then difficult to find someone to take our order, and it continued this way for the rest of the evening. Both the starter and the main course took a very long time to arrive, and we stared at our finished plates for a good 20 minutes before deciding to go and pay the bill at the desk, since there was no waiter in sight - and fortunately, we didn't want dessert or coffee. The restaurant wasn't busy, and although we saw several different waiters during the evening, the other diners appeared to be having the same problem. In future, I would probably choose to use them as a take-away instead of eating in, as the quality of the food far exceeded that of the dining experience. Briony (DI User), 01/03/12 We made our first visit here last night. We were served some olives, and bread and houmous on arrival and the menu came promptly. I had the Greek Sausages Starter and my partner had the Mezze Platter. Both very good with a lovely variety on the mixed platter. For main course I had the Lamb Shank and my partner had the Iskender. Both were excellent and everything was well presented. We accompanied the meal with a bottle of house red (Spanish Tempranillo) and that was perfectly good too. It was nice to get a jug of tap water and glasses too with no fuss. If I could make one recommendation to make things even better I'd say the lamb shank could probably have spent a bit longer with the sauce before it was cooked - the lamb and the sauce were both great but they didn't taste like the had known each other for very long! Service was good, prompt and polite and it was nice that the chef came out to check everything was OK. It was! We will definitely be back - it was a great Sunday supper after a film at the UPP. Tony Brett (DI User), 27/02/12 They have an excellent two course lunch menu. Around 6 starters and 6 main courses to choose from. The meze (a plate with small servings of around 5 different starters), and the vegetable lasagne are particular favourites. Not only is it delicous high quality food - it only costs £5.95 for two courses at lunchtime. Highly recommended. Richard (Unverified), 23/01/12 We ate here on Xmas Eve. The food was excellent - definitely the best lamb shish I have ever had. Very authentic. A large variety of food on the menu, to suit all tastes. Service was efficient and helpful. Great prices, especially if you go for a deal... Highly recommended! Maleeha Bari (DI Reviewer), 20/01/12 Ate here for the second time tonight and cannot praise Oxford's Grill enough. Fantastic value, really delicious fresh food and lovely staff. The lamb shish is the best I've tasted in this country and the mixed mezze starter is also very good. Nice touches like warm turkish bread with olives and humous and then turkish delight with the bill are also lovely. Please support this place - they're an asset to Cowley Road! The house red is decent too. cowleyfoodfans (Unverified), 08/12/11 Excellent meal here. Has the mixed mezze followed by lamb shish and the quality of the cooking and the flavours was fantastic. Will definitely be back and so pleased to have good Turkish cuisine on our doorstep. 14/11/11 We have just has a meal here yesterday with the family, no doubt about it the best value food I have ever had. Delicious and fresh meze, followed by one of the best lamb shish I have ever had. These guys know how to cook meat, succulent and just right. The baklava also was fantastic. Just how it is in Turkey. I will be going there regularly. DO (Unverified), 31/10/11 My friend and I had a wonderful meal here, 2 courses for only £5.95 each, amazing value!! The food was delicious, we received free flatbread, olives and hummous when we were seated. The starters were a good size, beautifully presented and tasty. We shared a metze plate and a feta filo pastry starter, it was all freshly prepared. For mains we had a lamb shish and chicken shish, both seved with declicately flavoured basmati rice and lettuce. The meat was very moist and beautifully flavoured. The decor is light and modern and we sat near the window and took our time to savour the food and watch the world go by. I can't recommend this place highly enough, lovely staff, delicous food and amazing value!!
