Holt Hotel @ Hopcrofts Holt

Possibly the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. They lost the booking of one member of our party but, to be fair, managed to accommodate her. However, I stayed in Room 69 which has the boiler system next to it. I hardly slept at all and there was no alternative available. I will never stay there again.

We can recommend the Holt: good price/quality. I was concerned because of a bad review, so I went to visit the hotel before booking (49 pers, nearly all aged 50+). All the rooms are nice, neat and clean and with good furniture. The rooms in the older part of the building are smaller, but certainly not to small! (for 2 persons staying a week, the wardrobe is a bit small.)

The food is excellent and the staff is very helpful and friendly.
The decoration and furniture of the bar/lounge looks welcoming and tasteful (classic.) From the Hotel garden there is a nice little walk trough the fields to the pub in the village.

I asked my group for a rate, and it got a good 8/9, (also by people in the smaller rooms). Some people of the staff also speak Suid Afrikaans, very easy for Dutch tourists! We were here 18-23 June 2006, for gardens and culture.

In January we booked a room at the Holt for June and were assured that everything was fine. However after two weeks we had not received a confirmation email. We then emailed them only to be told that there was not a room available for the date we wanted as it was the British Grand Prix. That is why we were going there! Please follow up your booking yourself as their lines of communication are a bit lax.
