Indeed if you walk down Divinity Road you can just glimpse the dome above the Victorian red brick rooftops, and that juxtaposition seems to illustrate the diversity of East Oxford. The Central Oxford Mosque was once a tiny structure on Bath St (off St Clements) until they moved into this building in the mid 2000s. Despite a petition about the call to prayer which caused enormous national furore and a row on the Today programme, local relations remain very good. There is no call to prayer broadcast, so the mosque is only seen and not heard by local residents.

Classes on Islam, Arabic and the Qu'ran are held here. The general public are allowed to visit during the Open Doors weekend in September. In the grounds there are recycling banks for clothes.
