Really very good indeed. Some of the best coffee I've had in Oxford, backing up a dazzling array of goodies all hand-made in-house, and not at all overpriced. They're good enough to make you want to go back immediately and work your way through the line-up. So far I can particularly recommend the Galette des Rois; the basics like croissants are all exceptional too. Two very friendly French dudes, serious care and attention to detail in the baking, and lots of butter - can't go wrong. modalizer (DI User), 25/01/13 Wasn't sure about this place when it first opened, thought it looked a bit 'tacky', but I walk past a couple of times a day and whenever I looked in I would be greeted by a warm smile from the staff and the delicious smell from the baking. But be warned, once you've tried a cake you'll be hooked, they are really exquisite, and the chocolate eclairs are to die for... The macaroons are stunning, I'm working my way through the flavours. A real treat of a place, with friendly, lovely staff. I hope you read this, go on in, spread the word and keep it open. RWT (Unverified), 15/08/12 The macaroons and pastries are extremely good but the gateaux and small cakes are in a league of their own. So much so that you feel bad for eating it; they are works of art and taste even better than they look. It's an exclusively good patisserie shop, I would go as far to say the best in Oxford. The staff and chefs are very kind and will patiently walk you through each creation, layer by glorious layer. I feel privileged to have stumbled upon this gem of a shop and make it a regular treat :) . Prices for cakes range from £2-4. evanslukes (DI User), 03/07/12 Love this place and Rick's Cafe on Cowley Rd! Their macaroons are delish! Highly recommend them! Cakes look stunning too. Yunners (Unverified), 25/04/12 What a delight to finally find a real French Patisserie close to the Cowley area! The macaroons are to die for, I already tried 5 different ones and planning on trying the cakes sometime this week! The patissier is obviously passionate about his job and willing to share his passion! I just love this place and can't wait to taste more of the delicious creations of Chateau Gateau! Lily (Unverified), 25/04/12 Feels so authentic. Interesting, delicious macaroons and buttery croissants and pain au chocolat...Some serious baking going on here! aer (Unverified), 24/04/12 |
