I also disagree with the poster who said the service is bad. The folks at Gluttons are generally pretty nice. Their limes are usually juicy, avocados not rotten, etc., which you can't say for the other options within walking distance. For this reason, I don't mind paying a bit more. The uncooked Chorizo is AMAZING, and the lamb samosas are the only ones I've found in the city that aren't soggy.
J-dog (Unverified), 12/04/10 Read the previous review and simply have to disagree - I shop at Gluttons almost every week and the staff are always pleasant and helpful. They also know their stuff and are happy to answer questions or provide advice. The shop itself has all the things I can't find elsewhere. Need buckwheat flour for blini? They've got it. Want clotted cream to go with your strawberries? They stock it. Phyllo dough? Check. They've also got great wine, a good selection of dried things like lentils and rice, and a lovely display of cheese, cured meats and chocolates. I love the fact that they've got fresh, seasonal (and largely local) fruit and veg for sale in baskets outside. Yes, it's more expensive than a supermarket, but I'd much prefer to go to a local, independent, friendly shop when I can. emmie (DI User), 24/07/07 Gluttons staff are notoriously grumpy but if you can manage to get what you want without getting their backs up you are likely to get a tasty sandwich. They are also quite expensive but the range of stuff on offer is quite wide, and once you try to get it in other parts of town you'll see why it's got a good reputation. I've noticed they trap you a bit into buying 'fresh' goods (eg olives from the counter, etc) by stocking a limited range of less inviting preserved versions. (Or maybe that's just my olive preference speaking.) The range of ingredients for sandwiches is really good (fresh salmon, meats, cheeses, salads etc.), and the cakes from the window are delicious - especially the mega chocolatey one and the giant florentines, yum! The only posh deli I've found of a similar kind (though lacking the cake selection) is Palm's in the Covered Market - though this makes Gluttons look cheap in comparison, so watch out.
