Missing the homeland, or just after an old-fashioned pint at old-fashioned prices (& perhaps a game of darts)? Then the Swan, Irish to the hilt & then some (especially when it comes to the jukebox & the decor - hurling & horseracing posters), is for you. Opposite the Crown House, east Oxford's Irish social club (see Shamrock bar, below), the Swan is not for the faint-hearted - but once adopted by the publicans, you'll find it warm and friendly. Does not accept cards. Games: Darts. Real Ales Games: Darts.

The Black Swan is a bit rough and ready but staff and regulars are friendly and the prices are the best in the area. It's also the only place in the area to go for televised GAA. What you see is what you get and it's a great escape from all the student orientated bars around Cowley Rd. Dee (Unverified), 09/07/12
Been in a couple of times after hearing scary stories about this pub. In reality is cosy old-man's local with a strong Irish theme. L-shaped bar with Irish memorabilia on walls, massive juke-box playing 60's/Irish folk. Outside concrete garden area has benches and Aunt Sally setup with flood-lights and score board.
