The George Hotel, Dorchester

We have just returned from a night's stay at The George Hotel and I have to say it was fantastic! I had read the reviews before I booked - some good some bad. We had a room on the outside (above the kitchens I think) which was huge (had an adjoining twin room), we had to laugh at the sloping floor and walls, but it was immaculately clean and tidy and very well presented with antique furniture that really complimented the building. I orderd a bottle of wine to be in the room on arrival and the manager recomended the house wine which turned up in a crooked bottle which matched the room perfectly! (and was delicious!) We picked up a leaflet in reception about Dorcester and it detailed some short walks to go on around the village which is exceptionally pretty with its Abbey and little thatched cottages. We returned to the hotel for our evening meal, the menu was slightly pricey but when we got our food we realised why. We both orderd the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection, I overhead guests recommending dishes to other guests and saying that they enjoyed their food. This is definatley not pub meals!

Breakfast the following day was the normal fry up which was fine. All the staff that we saw were friendly and helpful especially (I think) the manager and I would have no problems recommending this hotel to anyone.
