In response to the previous message - if someone took me for a romantic meal at pizza express that would probably be the last time I saw them..... I tried to have a meal here last week and despite one waitress telling me she would get a table ready for me, the manager intervened (having ignored me for five minutes) telling me there was a fifteen minute wait and 'wait downstairs and we'll get you when we're ready'). I left. I will not be going back. foz (Unverified), 10/07/07 A good value meal overall, we attended with a reasonable sized party (12-15 people) and had quick and friendly service. The only down point was the very large group sat on tables behind us (25-30 people) who got increasingly loud as the evening went on and at one point insisted on spending 10 minutes trying to wolf whistle! Whilst i appreciate the forward planning of putting groups together in one room it became inpossible to hold a conversation until they left. Food itself was excellent and well priced! annon (Unverified), 17/02/07 Tucked away under the Golden Cross archway on Cornmarket Street, and now only consisting of the first floor of its building, Pizza Express has a quiet setting, despite its central location. The set-up is open plan with mirrors and wooden floors giving it a modern feel, and there are also some smaller rooms set away from the main part of the restaurant where the larger parties all tend to get placed together (possibly to give other diners peace and quiet). The food is reasonably priced, with a good selection of Italian-style meat and veggie pizzas ranging from about £6-10 which are freshly prepared for you. There are a few token pasta dishes and a couple of salads (the chicken and goat's cheese salad with a portion of dough balls at £8 is a great girly choice). There are also a number of starters with the aforementioned dough balls with garlic butter for dipping always popular, and several really tasty (and highly calorific) deserts at around the £3-5 range, including chocolate fudge cake, cheesecake and Italian summer pudding all served with cream or ice cream and a selection of "bombes" comprising of a mixture of two different flavours of mouth-watering Italian ice cream. The wine starts at £11 a bottle for the house choice (both red and white house wines are really nice) and there are a few more expensive options, as well as bottled beers and soft drinks. This restaurant is a great place to go either for a group night out or for a romantic meal for two, especially if you are a pizza fan.
