Went to this place one sunny Sunday evening. I was impressed by the décor - the white tablecloths give it a clean, fresh feel. I ordered the quarter chicken with chips, with a tomato and onion salad as a side dish. The plate came with a mini gravy boat on the side which was a nice surprise. The gravy was lovely, a nice thin consistency and very tasty. The chicken was a bit dry but this didn’t detract too much from my enjoyment of the dish. It was just the right amount of food for me to be full, but not overly full. My partner had a pizza which he devoured rather quickly. His orange Fanta was brought to him in its bottle which they left on the table, with a frosted glass for him to pour it into which I thought was a nice touch. I wasn’t so keen on the unisex toilets which I always find rather disconcerting. However, overall I was pleasantly surprised by ‘Prezzo,’ which seems to be a step up from many of the other Italian restaurant chains. I certainly intend to visit again. Emsy76 (DI User), 07/07/08 Well, it was another outing for the Munch Bunch, so off to Prezzo for a change (we can't normally do pasta as Granny Munch has a wheat reaction, but the menu was good with lots of non-pasta & pizza choices). We all orderd different things and got to try most of each other's dishes. I must say they did all taste different and as if they were homemade. It was all well presented and the puddings were fab too. The staff were very welcoming & we had a very nice time overall. Also, the food & wine were well priced for a chain restaurant. We'll be back with the Mini Munchers to try the kids' deal, which looked great. Queen Munch (Unverified), 21/05/08 the banoffee pie is also heaven. I love prezzos, the staff were pleasant and the atmosphere was good. Gill (DI User), 04/11/07 Great service, shame about the food. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was mediocre at best: lasagne was overcooked, tasteless (I've tasted better with Tesco Finest!)extremely disappointing. OH had pollo gorgonzola which was expected to be flavoursome - hmm, his high expectation was fallen short of in that the dish tasted of nothing, a bit of salt could have moved the score from 1 to 3/10. The one highlight of the meal was the rich chocolate dessert that he had but was not good enough to tempt us back again. Overpriced. Peta (Unverified), 17/12/06 Prezzo was not a good experience, but seemed busy nonetheless on a Wednesday night. Loud music with the bass turned up competed with noisy conversation, which did not create a pleasant atmosphere. It wasn't bass-heavy music, just middle of the road "hits"... Horrible. We ordered spaghetti litorale and a special of seafood risotto. The spaghetti dish was spicy with chillis, but also very sweet, artificially so. The crayfish tails were chewy and unpleasant. The whole dish had a metallic taste, and was badly presented - the various components had not been properly integrated before serving. The seafood risotto was a very small portion, with the same metallic taste, and instead of a variety of seafoods it contained the same crayfish tails and just a solitary mussel. A side dish of mixed salad was fresh, crunchy and good, though. We decided to give them another chance, ordering puddings and coffee. The service relating to the "selection of ice creams" on the menu was comedic: Us: "and the selection of ice creams please" Waitress: "vanilla, strawberry, chocolate." Us: "... do we choose one?" Waitress: " But when they came they were OK. The tiramisu was nice enough, but presented in a way which reduced me to giggles. It stood proudly in an expanse of pirex plate, as if the washing up needed to be done in a student house. This was dotted around the edge with what seemed to be "Treat" chocolate sauce and cocoa powder, as decoration. The "freshly ground coffee" had the same metallic taste as the main courses, and was for me undrinkable. The service was not inefficient, and not unfriendly, but something felt uncomfortable about it. Glasses were removed from the table by a passing hand, all too casually. We seemed to be seen as a chore to be got out of the way, rather than the raison d'etre of the restaurant... I certainly will not be returning, and would not recommend. There are much nicer Italian restaurants nearby, with what seem to be good, fresh ingredients and a similar style. I don't see why the Castle development needs Prezzo. KT (Unverified), 30/11/06 We were looking forward to a nice relaxing meal, but at Prezzo we were rushed from beginning to end. The overzealous staff asked us four times if we'd like to order in the first 15 minutes! We'd hardly had a chance to look at the menu! The food was OK, but the evening was spoilt by stressy staff who seemed to only want to get your order, take the money and to free up the table for the next customers as quickly as physically possible! If it's a quick meal you're after then I very much recommend Prezzo. But if you want something more friendly and leisurely then, my advice is try elsewhere! Disappointed (DI User), 14/08/06 Having been to Prezzo in Aylesbury before and been very impressed with both the service and the food I was a bit sceptical about the Oxford restaurant due to the bad reviews it received when it first opened. But I can happily say there was no need for the bad review. Everything was fantastic. We arrived, having booked, at about 7pm on a Wednesday evening, it wasn’t packed but was full enough to have a nice atmosphere. We started off sharing a starter of Pane Con Cipolla (between 3 people as these can be fairly large). This was promptly (but not too promptly) followed by Taglialle Carbonara for myself, Vesuio Pizza and Crespolina Porcinin for the others in my party. All dishes were cooked to perfection. The portion sizes are just enough to fill you up but not so that you feel stuffed and unlikely to eat anything else. The pudding menu here is amazing. I can recommend anything on the menu but would say that their cheesecake (I don’t remember the name of it) is truly the most amazing pudding I have ever tried. It melts in your mouth. It is pure heaven. I would recommend Prezzo to anyone and would gladly go back there again. And again. kate_newell18 (DI User), 13/06/06 Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review for Prezzo. | |
