'The oldest continuous pub in Oxford' (the Bear is older, but was once closed for about 50 years) - parts of which consist of the old city wall - the Farmers is a popular, gay-friendly venue. Non-intimidating and lacking 'attitude', it also boasts a partly covered garden and 2 real ales on tap. Special offers on draught beers & various alcopops. Lively events programme.Opening hours: Mon-Sat 12-11pm Sun 12.30-10.30pm.

Just had an incredible Sunday lunch at The Jolly Farmers. Popped in for food during the week, a few weeks ago, which was very good also, and saw the 'Sunday Carvery' advertised at just £5.99, so thought we would give it a go. The meat was actually served on a plate from the kitchen, rather than in front of you carvery style, although there was plenty of it. The veg was unlimited from a carvery counter, all fresh veg, and a wide range of choices, which today included: roast, baby and mashed potatoes, cauliflower cheese, leeks, brocolli, carrots, peas and sprouts. Excellent value for money, and great friendly service again. Keep up the good work. Oxford Foodie (Unverified), 15/04/12 On our first visit to Oxford on Thursday 27th October my wife and I popped into the Jolly Farmers for a quiet beer and found it very friendly and welcoming. Got talking to Russ who was a partner in running the pub together with the Retreat in Bristol. Apparently he was in the pub for a few days to revamp the menu with some good old fashioned winter meals. We tasted his faggots in gravy and found them to be delicious... if they continue along these lines for their food they will succeed in making it a good place to visit. Reedy (Unverified), 31/10/11 As a man of Hetrosexual leanings, in my younger years this place was always considered in my mind off-limits when on a night out due its supposed strong gay theme, but after a recent visit i realise i've clearly been missing out as I found The Farmers to be far better than most of the other places I spent my younger years. Admittedly I visited during the day so can't comment on the evening vibe but from what I saw it seemed really agreeable. Really nice little garden at the back, modern interior throughout with a couple of sofas.
