This is what I call a real pub. Some of the best real ale in the county with friendly staff. The food is very good and excellent value. Anything billed as home made is exceptional. It is small and cozy so be prepared to get to know your fellow drinker / diner. This is part of the charm though. Probably one of the oldest pubs in the city. Easy to imagine Morse at the bar!

Very nice atmosphere - if rather crowded at times. I think they boast the best fish and chips in Oxford, and it was certainly better than I have had anywhere else.

Visited White Horse with my family, 2+3 recently, great food, very nice people and real english food. No music a big plus!

Fairly big in terms of seating and has pseudo-traditional English Pub décor. They have food offers on at non-peak times, so eating out for 2 can be quite cheap. On the minus side, it is a bit dark in there. Upon entering, you're plunged into almost pitch black. This is made up for by the fact that one can actually hold a conversation with others without being deafened by music. The quality of the food (especially those on special offer) is acceptable. The White Horse is a seriously great bar. Not spoiled or changed by modern refurbs, it's a traditional pub with a great selection of ales and home-cooked food, including the best fish and chips in town (allegedly!). No music, no machines - just good conversation.

Quality traditional pub in prime Oxford Uni and tourist territory. Most tourists would probably think it looks too dingy for their more mainstream leanings but once inside it's a bustling little hive of good booze and buzzing conversation. The first thing you notice is the size of the place, it may go back a bit but it's probably in the top 5 smallest pubs in Oxford. Getting a seat is not always easy but if you can then you can settle in to a proper pub atmos with some decent bitter on offer and some some seriously dirty scrumpy on tap.
