I go to the White house quite a lot. The food is very nice (if a tad over priced) and the staff friendly. It's probably one of the nicest pubs in the area as it has a big beer garden with a clean interior. Would highly recommend this place.
Dan (Unverified), 19/05/10 It used to be our work local, and it's been sad to see it boarded up so long. So nine of us went along today to test out the new White House. The place has been done up, and although the old version had somewhat more character, the joint is now fresh and smart. Very clean. Polished even. Perhaps too polished. It's a pub, not a (private) hospital! We ordered individually so it probably wasn't that surprising that the food didn't come out together, but (hint hint) it would be better if it did! Good range of beer. Food was quite reasonable. Good sized portions, nicely presented. I thought the chips could be crunchier, and the burgers didn't need quite so much time cooking. Good selection on the menu though. The service still had some wrinkles, it should be said, but I think these are mostly just teething problems. Give them a go! jx (Unverified), 11/09/09 Been there for lunch today - rather disappointed. There were ten of us so I didn't expect it to be very quick, but even so, three of us were left without food for a good while after most of our group was served, to the extent that people were finishing as our food was finally brought out. The waitress seemed a bit clueless, never apologised for the late food, and kept asking us if everything was alright - of course not, we're still waiting for our food! Just before the remaining plates arrived she did however present us with a bowl of cheesy chips - apparently because the chef had made them wrong and couldn't be served to the customer who had ordered them!?!? The food wasn't great when it came, either: credit where it's due, the burgers and warm sandwiches were enjoyed greatly, as was the bangers and mash, but the other dishes were less impressive. My haddock in a seed mustard and butter sauce (from the specials board) came absolutely swimming in melted butter with only the faintest hint of mustard, and the mushroom tagliatelle was similarly uninspired, amounting to a little less than its constituent parts. For the price I'd expected a bit more, frankly. jonny (Unverified), 26/08/09 Hello, I noticed that The White House is re-opening on the 1st July 2009 as a sports bar and carvery. Enjoy, It's been a long time waiting! James F (DI User), 01/06/09 What a shame this place has closed - it had a lovely atmosphere and food (especially vegetarian). What a loss. I do hope it reopens soon. M (Unverified), 20/03/08 Appears to have closed down with not so subtle iron cladding over the windows. No great loss Joe B (Unverified), 30/10/07 Tried this place twice, but both times sadly disappointed. Food poor, probably better to say appalling. Chicken Cesar salad, made with tinned boiled chicken and grated cheddar cheese for £8.95?! Service friendly, but inefficient. No ambience and no real character to the place. Poor choice of beers. One to avoid. Mike (Unverified), 12/08/07 Please fill in the boxes and then click "Send Review" to submit your review for The White House. | |
