I have to mention the acoustic night this place has, it's so underrated. A few weeks back I met up for a drink on a Monday night with a friend of mine and found ourselves in the middle of the most relaxed and unique acoustic night ever. There were no mikes or PAs just a stool and a beer crate right next to the bar. At first i thought it was a pre-booked thing, as a lot of the customers sang along or knew the players but after a chat with the bar staff realised it was open to all and that they pretty much let anyone play. It's just that they made a point of getting to know everyone who did. It seemed a slightly haphazard affair at first with the running order pretty much down to the bar staff/mc and a complete mix of styles from punk to folk, rock to blues, but it also meant the night didn't have that pretentious feel about it, no "shushing" or revered silence, you were allowed to chat. ;0) I think they're on every other Monday but check the dates and def. go along for something different. I've been back a few times now and each time it just gets better as you get to know the people there. Dave (Unverified), 24/07/09
Seems this place is finally coming together. A new face running things and a bit of a facelift to the pub. It's actually starting to look like a genuine "trendy" bar that Cowley Road has been needing. Drinks are a bit pricey, but if you ask, there are various student discounts throughout the week and on the Wednesday I was there, there was a special for £1.50. A def improvement, keep it up!
