Some students are "against" the concept of Krispy Kremes. I'm not quite sure what they mean. Bad food which is oh-so-good. The perfect place for that instant pick me up and sugar rush, and fun to sit outside with a dozen donuts on a summers day. Just don't look at the nutritional info.
Oxford Student (Unverified), 01/04/07 What's wrong with synthetic and American? They taste amazing. Bring a box to work with you and see if you're not loved by everyone, forever. Jill (DI User), 31/12/06 A McDonald's for doughnuts (tastes like fast food!). Proper doughnuts from a bakery are more delicious, and cheaper. livewire (Unverified), 04/09/06 To look at, there's a seductive sweet-shop-style variety of types, but to taste it's all rather American (i.e. sweet, bland and synthetic) in flavour. It doesn't by any means taste homemade. Worth getting a big box for a party though! LovePuppet (DI User), 11/07/06 We've just been and the caramel kreme, cheesecake, key lime, dulce de leche etc fillings mentioned in the previous review were nowhere to be seen. I did, however, find them on krispykreme.com - seems like they only do them in America. (I had a cinnamon and apple one, and very, very nice it was too.) Custard Lover (Unverified), 22/06/06 Krispy Kreme is the latest addition to the eateries surrounding Oxford Castle, the city's newest heritage site. A taste of 1930's Americana is recreated in the café's Hot Original Glazed yeast-raised doughnut; as ring shaped as the ditch that would have protected this area in Norman times. Contemporary Doughnuts come in all shapes and sizes (ring, twist or cruller) with a honey glazed, sugared or frosted topping. Mouth-watering fillings include caramel kreme, cheesecake or for custard connoisseurs take your pick from key lime, rich bavarian or dulce de leche cream. Should you need further persuasion to ditch the diet, the welcoming sign in the window declaring "hot doughnuts now" would have even William the Conqueror's troops thinking twice before leaving Oxford for their one-day's walk to Windsor Castle. Oxford Castle (1071) is built in typical "motte and bailey" Norman style with St George's chapel tower still intact making a trip to this café an educational treat for youngsters. Fresh doughnuts are regularly iced with chocolate and seasonal decorations to appeal to children (of all ages). Grown ups can choose between four signature coffee roasts, Smooth, Rich, Bold, or Robust Decaff, which can be mixed with a Double Choc or Original Kreme Frozen Blend drink. The deeply satisfying Frozen Blend is like sucking a favourite dessert through a straw. Large take-out boxes are perfect for office birthday parties and are bound to bring the bearer instant popularity. From cinnamon twists to chocolate cakes flavoured with sour cream, making a selection on a first date is sure to break the ice (unlike the escape route of the Castle's erstwhile captive Queen Matilda who raced across a frozen Thames to Wallingford Castle dressed in white one snowy Christmas in 1142). With coffee and cakes (with or without sprinkles) for two costing around a fiver, Krispy Kreme doughnuts score a hole in one.
