We were collecting lunch for five. For the most part we avoided tins and jars and went for the fresh and visible deli style stuff. Half-baguette type rolls for five, wheat free loaf for one, and all possible complements thereto. We got sheep cheese in a wedge, goat cheese in a log, and blue cheese in a disc. We got salami and parma ham and lobster terrine. We got olives with feta and olives with red bits and half-dried tomatoes. We got smoked mackerel and five different muffins and two sorts of apple juice, one with elderflower and one with beetroot. It was all rather nice. After subsequent telephone confirmation that the terrine was wheat-free, it was unanimously approved. The chocolate muffin was especially good too, having as it did pockets of unexpected moistness. And the rest. It all went and it was all fine. The total cost was about £45 for six very indulgent lunchers. The staff were very helpful, in spite of being very busy as finalists rushed in for champagne. We barely scratched the surface. There's a lot more in there. Miranda Rose and Susie Cogan, 14/06/07 If you have been easy-jetting your way around Europe recently and need a potted reminder of the aromas of Rome or the seasonings of St Etienne, then 'Olives' on the High Street is the place to bring the remnants of your holiday spends. Pick out whatever takes your fancy; a cinnamon, chestnut or melon syrup perhaps. Tasty tins of sardines and mackerel fillets are imported along with a potent black cherry confit. The colourful contents of jars of coq au vin, fish soup and duck pate tempt the passer-by into this compact shop where shiny bowls of olives and various antipasti cluster on the counter. Soup of the day helps makes a meal of a visit. Guest soups include a winter vegetable with pesto, a courgette apple and crème fraiche and a smoked haddock chowder. On offer too is a good selection of quality French cheeses and traditional Italian dried pasta. Lentil, garlic and tomato soup along with a bottle of freshly pressed pear, apple and beetroot juice will make a Latin Quarter bohemian of you yet. So if you can't decide between ciabatta or crusty baguette to mop up that last drop of richly seasoned extra virgin olive oil, then dig out your 6 string guitar, perch on the nearest open sash window and - like - deal with it, man! Lita, 20/02/07 This shop is totally magical. They stock an array of beautiful French and Italian foods from biscuits and cakes to pates and pasta. I was really impressed with their selection of cheeses and delicious olives. The range of fillings for baguettes and paninis is huge and they're very flexible to help you choose the most delicious sandwich to suit your personal taste. The staff are really friendly and considering they've only been open a few months I was impressed with their knowledge and team work. I would recommend this shop to everyone! 04/02/07
