Seriously Superior! Got my first takeaway from the Indian Room this evening, a simple meal for one with three dishes easy to compare with other places as they are so common. Chicken tikka: Moist, flavoursome. Tarka dhal: Delicious. Naan: Rarely had better. All that remains having so much enjoyed my meal is to explore the rest of their menu. A rare second-best to being in India itself :)
Esther (Unverified), 20/03/11 We booked a first time for a meeting dinner and I was quite impressed so I went a second time with my boyfriend who absolutely loved it as well. The staff are really friendly, there when needed but not "in your face" at anytime. The food was really good and I love the free appetizer. We'll be back very often ! JS (Unverified), 02/05/10 This place is just by my house, it unfortunately has a stigma associated with it I feel from the "old" exeter hall pub. HOWEVER The food is excellent - the service is excellent, the staff are friendly, the food is really well presented and there is a really good selection of "classics" and specials associated with this place, including a really good curried lamb shank! This is definiely the best curry house I've been to in Oxford and it's no more expensive than any of the others - I'd recommend it to any one. Chris (Unverified), 29/04/10 Just had a take away from there, and it was very good. Nice ingredients, not oily like some Indian takeaways. Thumbs up from me! Will definitely order from there again. Loke (Unverified), 17/04/10 I have eaten here a couple of times in the last month and I can't understand why the place isn't booked solid! Lovely food at a good price and very friendly staff. The menu has interesting specials and old familiar dishes and are beautifully presented. I'll be back.... cowleydeb (Unverified), 30/11/09 I went here for a meal with my friend on 18.08.09. We were initially worried as the place was empty at 6.30pm! As the rule goes, never enter an empty restaurant. But I'm glad we didn't stick to that here! We were greeted by very happy, smiley members of staff, and seated in very nice surroundings, on very well presented tables. The menu is huge, There was every traditional indian meal avaliable, plus many more speciality and house specials. There was even a dish where you need to give the restaurant 24 hours notice to prepare! We had the usual 2 courses and were both blown away by the quality of the food. Each of our dishes were very tasty! I would say without a doubt the best curry I have had in Oxford. I would recommend this to anyone! stationy2k (Unverified), 19/08/09 This had rapidly become our favourite friday night curry house. A very nice restaurant with an 'up market' feel and attentive staff. They have pulled off 'relaxed chic' here in a way that Oxford seems to struggle with generally. I am a big fan of Indian food and this is some of the best I have had in a long time. I would particularly recommend the house specials which come presented in some very original designs and the naans are fresh, soft, with crispy edges; perfect! The service can be slow on occassion but the group of us that go here regularly have always had excellent food and the nice experience of having the staff and management recognise and remember us. I highly recommend this new kid on the block. Eleanor (Unverified), 15/05/09 Having only discoverd this wonderful place on Tuesday this week, it is a testament to how good it is that it's only Saturday and I'm already back with more of my family. The decor is clean and fresh, there's a very relaxed atmosphere and the staff are attentive without being overbearing and extremely helpful if you don't know your vindaloo from your masala. I have food allergies and they were catered for without making a big fuss and drawing attention to myself. They are also child-friendly and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great meal and great value for money. debbie and mark (Unverified), 02/05/09 My husband, myself and our two sons visited here on Sat 4th April 2009. We all love Indian food and can honestly say this was one of if not the best we have tasted in a long time. The staff are so nice and really attentive. We will be visting again in the very near future. I think it is great having a restaurant in this area rather then going into the town centre or further into the Cowley Road. The decor and layout inside is really lovely, it really is worth a visit. bizzylizzie (Unverified), 06/04/09 We went a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The food was good - definitely one of the better curries I've had on Cowley Road lately. The service was very friendly if perhaps ever so slightly slow. There is some spillover noise from the bar that they should keep an eye on, to ensure a relaxing evening in the restaurant. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and has a good atmosphere. All in all it was better than I expected, and it makes a great addition to the top end of Cowley Road. Will definitely being going back. Moira (Unverified), 17/03/09 We visited this place on Friday 4th December (only a week after it opened). It used to be the eXeter Hall pub and music venue and has been re-invented as an Indian restaurant. Some conversion has been done and the owners have not spared expense in making the space extremely pleasant. The menu is pretty standard although with some interesting specialities to jazz it up a bit. The old small bar area of the pub is now the takeaway area and drinks can be served there too while you wait for your takeaway. We had drinks and two courses and the service was fine. The food was perfectly acceptable - not the absolute best curry I've had in Oxford but by a very long way not the worst. My main dish was served rather cold (although in a steaming hot dish) but no fuss was made when I sent it back - and a hot replacement came quickly and without stress. It was a replacement too, and not just the original microwaved! The cost was reasonable (c. £25/head with 2-3 pints of lager each) and with a few more people in the place, the ambience should be good too. I'd recommend giving it a try if you fancy somewhere new.
