The organiser says:
Dave Davies, owner of Dantzig Gallery, commented, “nowadays social media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat mean that modern celebrities come and go in a flash.
“Our artworks at Dantzig celebrate a halcyon era when the stars of stage and screen made a lasting impression on our culture. Theirs was a golden age, worthy of a space on our gallery walls.
“And it proves you don’t have to travel all the way to London to experience great art.”
Artist JJ added, “my new work takes a fresh look at images of famous people, but I like to bring them out in new ways, with a painterly touch. When you look at a photo of someone like John Lennon in concert you can feel like you’re a part of the audience. The beautiful thing about a painting is that you can feel like you’ve been allowed to sneak around backstage.”
