Having enjoyed the classic film of the same title, I entered the Oxford Playhouse unsure of what to expect, but the cast and crew of Chariots of Fire did not let me down.
The show was an utter joy to watch, from the creatively stages races themselves, through the depiction of British society during the time after the Great War, to the emotionally driven scenes between the runners and those closest to them. The performers also used music to their advantage in setting the scene and tone of the show, and the delightful interludes of the D'Oyly Carte Opera trio provided the audience with a welcome respite from the intensity of the main story line.
All in all, the production was incredibly professional, with many extremely talented performers, and I would highly recommend it to all who enjoy good theatre!
