Being Heard is the culmination of a decade-long collaboration between poet Kate Clanchy and the Oxford Spires Academy, exploring the ways that reading and writing poetry can be used to improve the lives of young people. Clanchy has been working with current and former pupils of Oxford Spires, encouraging them to express themselves in poetry, and many of the students who have taken part in the programme have gone on to win prestigious poetry prizes and been published by publishers such as Picador.
This event will feature poetry readings from past and present students, and video clips showing the process behind writing poetry. Kate Clanchy will also be in conversation with Susannah Herbert, Executive Director of the Forward Arts Foundation. Being Heard will end with refreshments and the opportunity to chat to the participants. The event is free to attend, but booking is required to ensure your place.
