National day of celebration of independent record stores everywhere. Bargains, goodie bags, quiz, limited editions plus DJ set from local legend Count Skylarkin'
Truck Store, 101 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1HU, and around 200 other indy record stores around the UK; Sat 21 April 2018
We at Daily Info are on a constant drive to encourage everyone to shop at local, independent stores. It's not that it's worthy, it's just fun, with a side benefit of keeping our city diverse and interesting.
So we definitely approve of Record Store Day - a national day celebrating indie record stores. More than 200 around the country are taking part, with events, gigs, and other excitement. This includes a number of stores in Oxfordshire - Truck Store in east Oxford, Rapture in Witney, The Music Box in Wallingford, and In The Groove in Henley. The Record Store Day website will give you details of participating stores around the country.
It's a bit of a shame we need an excuse to go to our local indie stores, but with so much going on in Oxford it's easy to keep meaning to go, but always end up doing something else. So think of this as a gentle nudge. Isn't there an album you've been meaning to get - something new, or an old favourite? Maybe the staff can recommend something you'd like? And if you want a bit of authentic vinyl on a punt then why not treat yourself to a little portable record player. It's just the thing for spring.
