She always said don't sweat the petty stuff and don't pet the sweaty stuff

The best advice my Mum gave me was to 'turn your lemon into lemonade'. My mother is a very positive person and she always gave me this advice growing up. It has taught me to keep on trying, problem solve, appreciate what I have and to be happy! You can't get better than that.

Happy Mother's Day!

If things go wrong, take a moment and then pick yourself up and start again.

When serving something you've cooked that didn't go quite according to plan, 'Never apologise and never explain.'

"Don't play with fire and you won't get burnt." As a piece of Health & Safety advice, this has proved exemplary: I didn't and I wasn't. Unfortunately - and this was back in the day, as they say - it was intended to be sex education!

Fear is just the fuel for super heroes

At a time when I was struggling with trying to do everything and be everything for everyone, she told me she wanted to see me be 'little miss imperfect' - which was just what I needed to hear. I needed to be just be me - the imperfect version - and I understood that I would always be enough, just as I am.

People fall in love with interesting people. Be interesting my dear, have interests.

Keep believing in yourself: never give up!

"Get your love interest drunk, so you can see their true colours." She used to say "fools and drunks will reveal the truth." (which sounds a lot better in my language)

My mum is a big believer in saying Carpe Diem. You can’t change yesterday, so live in the moment and be brave

Before marrying my mother said 'forgive his faults as always remember you are not perfect either'. I've now been married for 40 years so the advice must have worked!

"Be the change you want to see"

Be yourself because you are great.

Answer: to be myself.

Eating brown bread doesn’t stop you getting run over by a bus! So a little of what you fancy will do you good! And remember, everything in moderation, even moderation!!!

Everyone needs a bread bin to take to University so they can keep their staple food (toast for breakfast, lunch and tea) fresh.

Yes, really.

It would be great to take my Mum to enjoy this treat to see how 'toast' has evolved in a university setting since 1995!

Don’t change for anyone.

My mother told to listen twice, and speak once - and never be afraid to change your mind.

Now is the best time to do or start anything; you’ll never be as young as you are now!

No one ever got to heaven and wish they’d spent more time at work.

Remember that the world is not all black and white - just varying shades of grey.

"Make the most of EVERY moment - nothing lasts forever!"

You have to eat a peck of dirt before you die.

Wake up every morning with the thought that something wonderful is going to happen.

People fall in love with interesting people. Be interesting, have interests my dear.

If you are healthy and happy, your kids will be healthy any happy. Never under estimate your mental state and it’s impact on your family. Take regular time out to focus on yourself, remember you are not ONLY mummy.

Don’t feed crayons to your goldfish.

A good night's sleep and you'll be fine!

Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

Enjoy and Live every day to the full don’t stress because today’s worries are yesterday’s memories you only get one life so live life the way you want

Don’t worry too much, because the world is always changing and everything could be completely different in a few years. It’s better to focus on what matters to you now!

"Everybody you meet could be your friend or your enemy, depending on how you treat them."

"Everything you want is on the other side of fear" (including winning this competition?) Turns out she pinched it from someone but it was great advice!

Walk towards the problem, not away from it, it's never as bad as you think!

Work hard, get a job and never depend on anybody.

Literal translation from the German: let 5 be an even number. My mum is always telling me this, basically it means stop worrying about things and let them be as they are. For those interested in German, "lass Fünfe gerade sein"

If you think young, you'll stay young

You've got to be in it to win it!

That which is for you, won't go past you.

When my mum 1st met my now wife she told me to keep hold of this one and I did now 9 years later and 3 kids I couldn’t be more happy thanks mum and rest in peace

Always try your very best and then you'll know that whatever the result, you couldn't have done any better than that!

Wear clean knickers in case you get hit by a bus.

This is for my aunty because my mom lives in holland : you are the best aunt anyone could ever ask for

My mum used to tell my sister that the best way to catch a man is to run away

Don’t give up what you want most for what you want now.
