It's always good to reflect on how chance plays a part in shaping our lives; how not everything that happens to us is within our control, whether good or bad; and how, if life had taken a different turn, might one person become rich, homeless, famous, or infamous.

In the ICON project, Rory Carnegie and artists from Crisis worked together to recreate famous photos, with sets, props, costumes, and lighting. Some of the originals are carefully composed, like the cover of Abbey Road, others more spontaneous like Bobby Moore hoisted up with the World Cup. All feature centre stage those same Crisis artists, cast carefully into particular parts, and holding the focus of attention where they might at other times represent the overlooked.

Perhaps the most uncomfortable image is that of the Bullingdon Club, which casts a harsh light on the inequalities in our society. Some of the images must have been great fun to shoot, this one maybe less so. But perhaps also the process of dressing up, taking on the mantle, inhabiting the maxim that clothes maketh the man, is also liberating in its way, and shows us that there's only a couple of steps between any of us.
